Curcumin is the main active ingredient in turmeric. It has powerful anti-inflammatory effects and is a very strong antioxidant. When you hear “food is medicine” this is the type of food they are talking about!
But how can you incorporate turmeric into your diet?
1) Teatis Tea CALM
Our tea comes in powder form and CALM tea is turmeric mixed with ginger and lemon. Make a delicious soothing latte with your favorite plant-based milk. Sweeten with some (raw) honey and enjoy.
Turmeric brings a warm flavor to dishes. When you sauté the chopped onions and vegetables in oil, stir in some turmeric powder (1-2 tsp) and let it simmer with all the rest.
Be adventurous, add a bit of color to rice dishes. Simply by adding ½ tsp turmeric to the water when cooking the rice. It won’t affect the flavor much but adding a fun color and health benefits to your rice is a good idea.
You can add ½ -1 tsp to any of your favorite smoothie recipes. And if you like a new recipe then this anti-inflammatory turmeric smoothie with pineapple and mango may be right up your alley.
5) Turmeric shots
For the brave ones; juice fresh turmeric root and drink a small shot: 1-2 tbsp. It does not taste great, you can mix it with water and after you swallow, bite into a slice of lemon ( tequila style) To make this more enjoyable; mix the turmeric in with some carrot and orange juice.
Warning: Turmeric stains. Make sure to wipe up any turmeric juice of your kitchen counter right away. And do not spill turmeric on your favorite clothes!
